Chancel
Choir Update 3/31: Death In Chancel Choir Family / Cares and Concerns
It is with sadness we report the following from Tenor Kathy Roberts:
"My mom, Margie Roberts was hospitalized for about 15 days in mid-February
with pneumonia. She then transfered to Brooking Park for rehab and therapy,
etc. While she showed some improvement for a short time, because of her
chronic lung disease, she just couldn't recover this time. She passed
away on Saturday morning (3/28) at the age of 83. At this point it was
really a blessing. As she had lived here in St. Louis less than two years,
services will be at a later date in Glenview, Ill., where she will be
interred next to my dad. Prayers for my family will be appreciated."
This note is from Soprano Shannon Meriwether:
"My mom, Carole Schroeder, was admitted to St. Luke's Thursday morning
with congestive heart failure, and lots of swelling. She is still in the
ICU and will be until her oxygen level can stay high enough. We would
appreciate thoughts and prayers. It seems this is the season for Jason's
and my parents to start falling apart."

of former Chancel Choir member Carole Allen. She died on Wednesday (3/25)

Choir Update 3/25: News / Cares and Concerns
We're getting down to the important stuff for our musical. Kevin
says wear your dancing shoes to rehearsal tomorrow night. Fear not, it's
pretty easy and Kevin says our dance steps involved only one foot off
the floor at a time. See you tomorrow night.
Cares and
Concerns
This from Soprano Carleen Anderson about husband Jim: "Good news
on the bone and CT scans. No spread of the cancer to bone or lymph nodes.
He is not a candidate for surgery with his history of stroke. He has started
treatment that will take at least a year to complete. They start with
hormone injections and adrenal pills to shrink the prostate and in four
months he will have the radiation seeds implanted and then following in
three months have external radiation treatments. It is very advanced cancer,
but they feel this should take care of things. Thank you for your prayers
and continue to keep us in your prayers during this course of treatment."
This from Soprano
Jo Ann Jones: "Bruce's medical partner, Dr. Frank Tull, will be leaving
our office and St. Luke's Hospital and moving his practice to DePaul Hospital
as of April 1. He will be gaining two operating rooms at a time and several
MAs and PAs, so he can be more efficient and get home sooner to play with
his kids. Any of you who want to continue seeing Dr. Tull should fill
out paperwork to have me copy your medical records and send to his new
office. Bruce is NOT retiring, despite rumors that are abounding. He will
continue in the same office where he has been since 1985. He will be happy
to see any of Dr. Tull's patients, especially the choir members. The ladies
at the front desk are supposed to try to limit Dr. Tull's patients to
hip and knee surgeries, so please tell them that Jo Ann said it's okay
for you to see Dr. Jones, no matter what the problem is -- because you
are in choir with me. (I have some clout at the office!) Thanks for your
understanding."

If you're a singer who stayed home last night because you don't think
you can memorize the music, think again. Kevin has reduced the number
of pieces needing memory work. There are only four now and we pretty much

great fun and we really need you to participate.
Choir Votes
to Revise Scholarship
Following a proposal from Chancel Choir officers, the choir voted to increase
the amount of its annual college scholarship and the way the scholarship
is paid out. Effective this spring, the Chancel Choir will award one $1,000
scholarship that is renewable for three consecutive years while the recipient
is in college for a total scholarship of $4,000. The recipient will have
to reapply each year and show proof of continued full-time registration.
Written guidelines will be developed and the new scholarship program will
be communicated to potential applicants later this spring.

Proposed Change
In Choir Scholarship
Choir President Ann Garber reported during rehearsal last week that the
choir officers were considering a change in the annual scholarship the
choir awards to a graduating high school senior. Officers proposed boosting
the annual scholarship to $4000 from its current $2000 and paying the
scholarship out over four years in $1000 increments. Only one scholarship
per year would be awarded. A scholarship winner would continue to receive
the payments as long as they stayed in school. There were several suggestions
from choir members and officers are fine tuning the proposal for a future
vote of the choir.

Concerns
This from Soprano Kathy Givens:
Are you a cancer survivor, undergoing treatment, or are you just starting

are invited to join this sharing and caring group on Tuesday, Feb. 3,

Cancer survivors have many experiences, fears, and hopes in common and
this group offers a unique opportunity to look at life with Christ and

Choir Is Invited
To Sing For Johnson Memorial Tomorrow
For years Tenor John Johnson made our choir his musical home. When he
left the choir to return to his home church a couple of years ago, he
was our oldest member. John died a few weeks ago. His memorial service
is this Saturday and an invitation has been extended to members of the
Chancel Choir to join singers at Second Baptist Church for the funeral
service. The service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at Second Baptist
Church, 9030 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights, Mo. The church is just west
of the Galleria Shopping Mall on the corner of Clayton and McKnight roads.
Dr. Stephen Jones, pastor; Brad Short, choir director; and Marilyn Short,
organist will be leading the service. The choir will sing "Kingdom
of God" by Stephen Lawrence. It's an easy piece, but good for the
funeral. We will not wear choir robes. Brad Short would like to invite
choir members from MUMC to join the singing. We will practice at noon
to be ready for the 1 p.m. service. Join us whether you would like to
sing with the choir or just attend the service.

Christmas
Concert Recordings
Our Christmas concert this year was one of the best ever. All we need
is more singers and a Tabernacle and we could give the MTC a run for its
money. A digital recording was made of this year's concert and will be
ready for pick up at rehearsal on Thursday, Jan. 15. If you would like
a recording either reply to this email or put your name on the sign up
at rehearsal this Thursday. The CDs are $10.
